Ruqaiya Asim is a mixed-media artist studying her BA at The Slade School of Fine Art. Severely sight-impaired and a guide dog user, her work focuses on disability awareness.
This installation explores the communication between the artist and her guide dog, Bertie, emphasising their trust and bond. The monoprints trace the shape of Bertie’s harness, whilst the Braille piece in the centre allows those who cannot read Braille to experience the inaccessibility of art for sight-impaired people.
Viewers are encouraged to touch the Braille piece in the centre of the work, the raised outline of the piece and the clay and plaster imprints of Bertie’s paws.
