The Williamsburg Neutral Grays set allows artists to create full-value grisaille paintings (paintings made entirely from tones of grey). Neutral Grays in this set range from N2 (darkest) to N8 (lightest). Together they produce balanced value "steps" for mixing with other colours and are ideal for creating a full lighting effect.
Originating from the Williamsburg neighbourhood of Brooklyn, and now manufactured by Golden Artist Colors, Williamsburg makes over one hundred seventy artist-quality oil colours. Pigments are ground in pure, premium, alkali-refined linseed oil and made in batches no larger than eight gallons at a time. This gives Williamsburg total control over the product, much like the late nineteenth-century French colour makers.
